Andrew Blanch is one of Australia’s leading guitarists. Returning from an outstanding 2024 USA tour to over 37 cities and 10,000 audience members, and praised as “the rockstar of nylon-acoustic music” (On Sounds), “the real deal” (Classics Today), “dazzling” (ArtsHub), and “brilliant” (Limelight Magazine), Andrew has won prizes in more than ten international competitions and released three critically acclaimed albums. He has captivated audiences from Berlin to Cordoba, São Paulo, London, Sydney and Auckland.
The evening begins with a virtuosic solo Spanish guitar recital. Andrew traces the instrument’s rich history from the European Baroque in J.S. Bach to fiery evocations of Spanish life in the works of Catalan Maestro Isaac Albéniz, then continues into Latin America, with 20th-century masterpieces from Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, and Uruguay.
The emotional finale transports you to Argentina, as phenomenal Argentinian mezzo-soprano María Eugenia Nieva joins Andrew for a selection of Argentinian Tango and Música Folklórica, featuring music by Astor Piazzolla and Carlos Gardel.
In an evening of passion, romance, and dazzling musicianship, Andrew and Maria Eugenia’s lively on-stage storytelling, and their warm post-show conversations with audience members create an unforgettable treasured experience.
“I’ve just been serenaded and fallen in love … beautifully rich imaginings of Spanish pieces presented wonderfully.” – Audience Member
