Sports
If your idea of a great holiday is one which gets your pulse racing, the region won’t disappoint. If watersports are your thing, there’s waterskiing and wakeboarding, as well as jetski hire available near some of the river’s widest, flatest stretches. Back on dry land, there’s horse racing at the Murray Bridge Racing Club and horsepower at the town’s speedway. Want to see it all from above? We’ve got skydiving with epic views. Looking for an activity to calm the pulse back down? We also have a large array of golf courses to help you unwind.
WATERSPORTS
The Murray River Lakes & Coorong region is a mecca for watersports of all kinds! For those who have their own equipment there are plenty of amazing wide stretches of river, perfect for waterskiing, wakeboarding or jet skiing. A number of hire companies within the region can assist visitors who want a taste of the action!
There are many public river reserves in the region (find them by calling the Council in each area), offering boat ramps and public facilities like BBQ’s and toilets.
The river regularly hosts state and national water sport championship races, such as wakeboarding (White Sands Caravan Park), skiing, and endurance runs.
MOTORSPORTS
Murray Bridge is home to the Murray Machining & Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway. This dirt-racing track hosts meetings every second Saturday night between September and May. The venue is known for providing a variety of events, from World Series Sprintcars to state titles, Australian Freestyle Motocross and demo derbies!
Murray River, Lakes & Coorong is home to South Australia’s brand new motorsport complex, The Bend Motorsport Park at Tailem Bend. A state-of-the-art, world-class motorsport facility, featuring a huge range of facilities including circuit racing, drag racing, drifting, go karts and rally. The first motor race occurred in April 2018, with a range of new exhilarating motorsport experiences.
The region offers plenty more for adrenaline junkies on wheels. Check out the go-kart tracks at Goolwa and Monarto, and the competition motorcross facility, also at Monarto.
Murray Bridge hosts an Australian International Pedal Prix race at Sturt Reserve in September each year. This is great to watch, with plenty of action, entertainment and activities for all the family.
AEROSPORT
The river not your thing? Then try some fun in the air. The region has plenty on offer. Skydiving above the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong is breathtaking, with views over the river corridor, lakes and ocean. Similarly, venture into the skies on a War Bird thrill flight, or a helicopter joy flight.
Not that adventurous? Then fly your own model airplane. The Adelaide Model Aerosport Club operates from Monarto and welcomes visitors to watch demonstrations or try some lessons.
BIKE RIDING
There is a wonderful array of places to go for a bike ride in the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong region. To see some of the best trails to go bike riding on – check out our Bike Riding Trails.
Didn’t bring a bike with you on your great big outdoors adventure? Not to worry! Many fantastic places around our region have bicycles and e-bikes for hire. We recommend giving the towns nearest Visitor Information Centre a call to find the best option for you – they often offer a bike hire service themselves.
GOLF
It’s time to grab the clubs and head out to the greens for your well deserved Golf time. The Murray River, Lakes and Coorong have an array of Golf Courses in the region. This means where ever you stay, there is bound to be a course nearby.
