With such beautiful and varied scenery to explore, the Murray River Lakes & Coorong offers many opportunities to walk, hike, mountain bike, horse ride or canoe. Our trails feature both on water and on land, offering different levels of difficulty to ensure there is something for every type of explorer. WALKING AND HIKING
The Murray River Lakes & Coorong offers many opportunities to walk or hike through our stunning surroundings. A range of walks and trails of varying lengths and degrees of difficulty are on offer. From picturesque waterfalls to historical town walks, there is plenty to keep you active on your next visit to the region.
Be sure to check with Visitor Information Centres in each town for their walking maps.
BIKE RIDING
The Murray River Lakes & Coorong region offers some fantastic riding opportunities, which are a great way to experience the vast area and ever-changing landscapes. For those with their own equipment there are plenty of quiet sealed roadways to explore.
Mannum Visitor Information Centre offers a bike hire service with a bike to suit every member of the family. This is a great way to explore the township and surrounding areas whilst getting some exercise at the same time!
Similarly, you can hire bikes at Goolwa from Urban Garage, and cruise along the river’s edge, either upstream along Liverpool Road, or downstream to Barrages. There are lots of great cafes on the way to refuel!
Murray Bridge has a great selection of bike trails, travelling either along the river, or inland. Choose from beginner, intermediate and advanced routes. A great one to try is the Murray Bridge to Monarto trail. All of the trails are well sign posted.
If vast water views are your thing, then try cycling from Meningie, around Lake Albert to Raukkan. Here you can visit the Point Malcolm lighthouse, Australia’s only inland lighthouse. The views from Raukkan are sensational, and the community is very welcoming.
The Tailem Bend Community Centre has free bike hire – take a cruise along the river clifftops and stop at the Riverside Hotel for a lunch with spectacular river views.
CANOE AND KAYAKING TRIPS
Paddle through the water to explore the region from a different perspective. There are plenty of areas to lodge your canoe’s and kayaks along the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong region. Cruise the Coorong, Mannum, Murray Bridge, Tailem Bend and many other hot spots. We can provide insight into a range to distances and sights to see for all fitness levels. Whether you are out on a family paddle, squeezing in a fun fitness session before brunch or racing your competitive companion in a marathon trip; you will find something to suit all your desires.
